FTL FUTBOL Premier Division
The final Saturday of the current season saw Abingdon Town go out on a high, thrashing Malmesbury Victoria 8-0 in the process. Lining up for score-sheet duty for the Abbots were Graham Edney with a five-timer, Lance Williams, Mark Simms and Ben Ellwood. Almondsbury Town had a comfortable 4-1 victory over lowly Bicester Town, courtesy of goals from Aaron Blakemore, Ross Stearn, Todd Winter and Dale Peckham. Daryl Harris grabbed the Foxhunter’s consolation effort. The unpredictable Ardley United were already four goals down to Flackwell Heath, thanks to Mitch Woodward, Callum Coull, Lee Thompson and Ben Sturgess before Stuart Bridges was able to reply in the final moments of the game. Pegasus Juniors and Reading Town were separated by Mike Hancock’s strike for the visitors just after the break. Shortwood United overcame relegation threatened Fairford Town in a typical end-of-season game, scoring three times through Andy Hoskins, Matt Collins and Ben Pugh. Ian Probert hit a consolation goal for the visitors. This leaves Almondsbury Town as champions with Shortwood United in the runners-up spot and long-time leaders Reading Town in third place. Up for relegation, at this time, are Malmesbury Victoria, Fairford Town, Bicester Town and basement club, Hook Norton.
FTL FUTBOL Division One West
Today’s program saw an exciting conclusion to the season unfurl with three teams going into their last game separated by goal difference only. Will Wellon’s first half effort separated rivals, Slimbridge and Headington Amateurs in a closely fought encounter. Amateur’s launched an onslaught late in the second half to try to restore parity but Slimbridge held on. Wootton Bassett Town were at Easington Sports and went ahead through Matty Bown right on half time. Steve Elkins replied for Sports midway through the second period, but Sam Collier netted the winner for the visitors with 7 minutes left on the clock. Slimbridge take the title with Wootton Bassett Town in runners-up spot and Headington Amateurs in third place. At the other end of the table, Launton Sports and basement club, Cirencester United occupy the bottom two places, however neither will be relegated due to the loss of Hardwicke and Harrow Hill during the season.
In today’s other games, Cricklade Town had a fine win over Lydney Town by 4-2. On target for Crick were Arron Maximen and Nathan Gambling with his first hat-trick of the season, and for the visitors, Glen Stallard and Matt Timmins. Launton Sports signed off with a convincing victory over Cirencester United. Paul Lissiter scored first for the Sports but Callum Jack very quickly replied for the equaliser. However, a second half hat-trick Dan Scourfield settled the outcome. North Leigh Reserves hit three without reply against Winterbourne United. All the goals came in the second period thanks to Ben Reardon, Andy Caton and Sam Doherty
FTL FUTBOL Division One East
Fred Trip and Liam O’Neill scored one in each half for Chalfont Wasps to take the victory over lowly visitors, Newbury. Eton Wick were the eventual winners in an entertaining game against Rayners Lane as seven goals were shared between the teams. Scoring for the Wick were Ryan McCullagh and Adam Hickey with a hat-trick and for the visitors, Sim Mitchell, Darren Gardiner and Jermaine Reyhill. Penn & Tylers Green signed off with a win after Roland Knight’s 4th minute effort turned out to be the only goal of the game against Farnborough Reserves.
South Kilburn took the scalp of champion’s elect, Thame United when Eric Hamilton scored in the final few minutes of the match.
So this leaves Thame United as champions, with Wokingham & Emmbrook in second place. Whilst Newbury and bottom club, Penn & Tylers Green occupy the bottom two places though neither will be relegated as Prestwood withdrew during the season and Kintbury Rangers have elected to return, voluntarily, to the North Berks League.
Presidents Reserve Cup – Semi Finals
Holyport and Old Woodstock Town won their semi final ties on Saturday and will face each other in the final on Thursday evening at Old Woodstock Town’s New Road ground.
Holyport secured their place with a 1-0 win at Newbury FC whilst Old Woodstock comprehensively beat Shrivenham 4-1 to get into the final

‘Almonds’ to share with Clevedon Town
Southern League club Clevedon Town have signed a groundshare agreement with Premier Division Champions
Almondsbury Town for next season and will hopefully be playing in the Southern League. This will see both teams play their home games at the Hand Stadium from August. Clevedon Town spokesman Paul Guy said:
“Whilst this has been a commercial decision for the club, outside of the business end, we are looking forward to working alongside Almondsbury Town and are keen to welcome them and to the Hand Stadium.
Almondsbury chairman Bob Jenkins added:
“After twenty years at Oakland’s Park it is sad to leave but after wining the `double` as champions of the Hellenic Premier and securing the Glos FA Trophy, it’s a fitting end to our time there. Now we move on and look ahead to continuing success and are honoured to share such a great facility as the Hand Stadium.”
The outcome of promotion is not yet resolved though as a series of meetings will be held commencing in the coming week with the final outcome being decided by the FA League’s Committee and subsequently advised to leagues and clubs.

Slimbridge 1-0 Headington Amateurs
Division One West couldn’t finish closer and with just one game left to play, three teams headed the table, separated only on goal difference. Two of them met at Slimbridge where Headington Amateurs were the visitors. As expected the game started with both sides marking tightly. The ground was dry and long balls took a high bounce. The Swans used this twice to their advantage, the first came from a free kick which beat the defence but Joe Tustain’s header bounced off the bar and the second time, Tustain again got behind the defence but keeper Harry Jenkins stood up well to save his volley. The home side had the edge and were creating more chances and in the 19th minute Amateurs’ defence stood still waiting for an off side whistle. Neither of the Swan’s advanced forwards moved for the ball and Will Wellon raced through from midfield to slide the ball under the diving keeper’s body to give the Swans the lead. On the half hour, Joe Tustain seemed to be clear on goal but a great covering tackle from Benji Cuff saved the day. Despite their hard work, the Amateurs failed to trouble the Swans in the first period. The second half saw the Amateurs come out with more determination and a great game opened up. By moving the ball around faster, they were able to press forward for the equaliser. The Swans dropped back and absorbed the pressure and showed why they have only conceded 20 league goals all season and prevented the Amateurs from getting a shot in on keeper Dave Evans throughout the game. So Slimbridge march onwards and upwards as the league champions.
